We have studied the qualitative properties of the solar acoustic spectrum excited by convection. Such a spectrum should show skew lines, some of them should have a reduced peak power and a few should be missing. We have also checked the influence of the surface boundary condition (running waves or perfect reflection at the bottom of the corona) on the spectrum. Finally the influence of the strong damping in the chromosphere suggested by Deubner and Fleck is considered. It is found that it can explain the non observation of chromospheric modes.
