The stability of various terrestrial coordinate systems over time intervals of eight years is evaluated by comparing the coordinates of the pole for observations in different reference systems. The four reference systems studied include: (1) the BIHA, (2) the BIHG, (3) the CSR, and (4) the IRIS. The relative shift in the origin of the system and in the mean pole at the epoch of observations are calculated by applying linear low-frequency filtering to each system. The data reveal that the BIHA, BIHG, and CSR systems display shifts in the origin and the mean pole of epoch; however, the IRIS system shows hardly any shifts. The results are compared with Feissel (1984) data and good correlation is obtained. It is noted that high measurement precision over short time intervals will not ensure that a reference system maintains long-term stability.
