The authors present VJHK observations of the metal-poor field RR Lyrae star VY Serpentis. Using a variation of the Baade-Wesselink method they derive a radius of 5.80±0.19 R_sun; at minimum light. The use of infrared magnitudes and colours results in a consistent set of radius determinations. For a temperature at minimum light of 6000±150K then MV(min) = 0.90±0.12 mag and
