The possible consequences for the monopole problem of the existence of a homogeneous cosmological magnetic field are investigated. Boltzmann's equation was solved for an ensemble of monopoles in an expanding Bianchi I universe in the presence of a constant magnetic field. It was found that by fine-tuning the free parameters in the solution it is possible to reduce the monopole number density to any required amount. An exact solution of Einstein's field equations was found when the energy-momentum tensor is a mixture of homogeneous magnetic field, dust and magnetic monopoles. The solution is conditionally stable and allows a very stringent limit on the monopole flux. The flux has to be less than 10-25cm-2s-1sr-1.
