Photometry of the jet in the Crab Nebula in the forbidden lines of O III and H-alpha + N II is presented. A mass of 0.003 solar masses is estimated for the matter in the jet. The connection of the jet to the filamentary shell suggests that it is due to an instability of the confinement of the relativistic particles and magnetic fields in the Nebula.
