An experimental gravitational-radiation detection system is described which uses two 1400-kg square antennas operating at a frequency of 145 Hz. The parameters of the antennas are described analytically and compared with those of Weber's cylindrical antenna. The calibration of the system is shown to consist of determining the electromechanical coupling coefficient and the total voltage gain of the electronic circuit. An upper limit for the relation between the mean energy-spectrum density and the daily occurrence rate of gravitational-radiation pulses is derived from the observed cross-correlation of the two outputs. It is noted that the cross section of a gravitational-radiation antenna of a given mass and effective area is about 100 times smaller in the 100-Hz region that in the 1000-Hz region.
