Components of the radiation balance measured by the Meteor and Planet balloons in 1969 over the Atlantic Ocean are presented. The albedo of the sea surface is calculated on the basis of Meteor data as a function of solar elevation angle for a cloudy day and a clear day. Daily total radiative energy increased from north to south due to increasing temperatures and water vapor concentrations in the atmosphere. Data show that cloudiness before noon is more influential than cloudiness after noon. Albedo values were slightly different from those obtained by Kondratyev (1969); this discrepancy is attributed to a rougher sea surface in the present than in the previous study.
