The correlation E(p/a exp -1) between the parameters p and the inverse values of the semimajor axes a exp -1 of nearly parabolic comets is investigated. It is found that this correlation is negative for elliptical orbits with p greater than 2.7 AU (correlation coefficient K = -0.94) and that it is positive for orbits with p less than 1.7 AU (K = +0.99). It is shown that all the nuances of that correlation may be equally explained within the framework of two hypotheses of the origin of nearly parabolic comets: the eruption of comets by massive trans-Plutonian planets, and the formation of comets in situ.
