Short-period comets such as Gehrels 3, Shoemaker-Levy 9, Helin-Roman-Crockett have low-velocity encounters with Jupiter (it is known that about 50 similar objects exist). For most of them this phenomenon is accompanied by the number of peculiarities. The most remarkable are temporary satellitic capture (TSC) and multiple minima (MM) of the jovicentric-distance function of comets. The evolution of many objects was studied in order to investigate this phenomenon. The detailed analysis of close encounters for observed comets has shown the importance of such orbit parameters as size, form and mutual location of a comet and Jupiter during the revolution of the comet. The kinematics of six models for low-velocity encounters was investigated. These models describe the mechanism of TSC and MM of observed comets. The region of orbits with peculiarities of close encounters is found. It is shown that observed comets are located in this region.
