Observations of optical spectra of two emission objects located in the direction of the Galactic center, M3 - 44 and M2 - 19, previously classified as doubtful planetary nebulae, are presented. The parameters obtained from these observations, as well as the dust characteristics deduced from the IRAS Point Source data, are discussed. It is found that both objects are not located in the vicinity of the Galactic center but are seen projected over it. It is concluded that M2 - 19 is a young planetary nebula, while the possibility that M3 - 44 may be a compact H II region or a young planetary nebula is discussed.
