The merging galaxy Arp 220 was observed with the Chandra X-ray Observatory using the ACIS camera. I will discuss the morphological and spectral properties of the X-ray emission on four different scales: the nuclear region, the galaxy, the extended `double-bubble' structure and the wider field. The emission from the superwind within the galaxy covers a range of temperatures from 0.3 to about 2 keV, while the emission from the extended double-bubble is dominated by emission in the 0.2 to 1 keV range. We confirm the association of the southern X-ray component with Heckman's background group, and detect the individual galaxies within it as well as two sources with no POSS2 counterpart.
