The California HIgh school Cosmic ray ObServatory (CHICOS) is a proposed research array, comprised of detectors on school roof tops, which will involve educators and students in the collection and analysis of data from ground-reaching cosmic ray showers. The CHICOS concept capitalizes on the infrastructure of Los Angeles area schools to achieve dense detector coverage over a vast area. We will describe the CHICOS EPO effort which will help educators teach fundamental science using modern research data. CHICOS EPO includes graduate-level courses and workshops for teachers, classroom modules for students, supervised research projects which utilize the collected cosmic ray data and a refereed electronic journal where teachers and students can publish their work.
