Systematic effects affecting the accuracy of photometry in the near-IR are reported which include the influence of an inhomogeneous selection of standard stars, the atmospheric transmission, and the conversion of magnitudes into monochromatic fluxes. Attention is also given to the absolute calibration in the near-IR and a suitable calibration for the present ESO system.
