The process of recruiting new physics faculty presents significant challenges to both the hiring departments and the hopeful job applicants. Both are looking to optimize their chances of making the best match, and after a successful match is made, both are looking to establish the permanence of this relationship. The variables that affect this entire process are many. In this talk, I offer my perspective as a relatively new faculty member at a major research institution. I will discuss my impressions from the candidate's point of view and also give some insights from the other side of the fence.
