I will give an overview of the current status of the application of effective field theory to hadronic physics. Progress that has been made in describing systems containing two- or more nucleons will be discussed, with an emphasis on the dependence of such systems on the values of the light-quark masses. I will also describe progress that has been made in describing the properties of baryons in quenched and partially quenched QCD and why this is an important ingredient in determining baryon properties from lattice simulations.
