RECENTLY, Zeldovic et al.1 have described several important astrophysical aspects of quarks. In this communication I shall make some suggestions as to the part that quarks may play in cosmology. Although these ideas are now necessarily speculative, their potential importance seems to warrant at least a brief discussion at this time. A particularly attractive possibility is that a low observed abundance2,3 of quarks may impose much more stringent limits on the anisotropy of the universe than can be obtained from investigations of radio and quasi-stellar objects.
