On 1991 August 20 the resonance lines of both K I and Rb I were found to be in emission in R Andromedae, a classical S-type Mira star. Assuming that both lines are excited by collisions with the same species the ratio of K/Rb is found to be 30 which is a factor 10 lower than in the sun. Using earlier analyses of the Zr abundance Rb/Zr = 0.2 which may be compared with a value of Rb/Zr = -0.66 found for the barium star HR 774. Using their analysis as modified by n-capture cross sections of the sensitivity of the Rb/Zr ratio to neutron density through the branching isotope Kr-85 the neutron density in R And is estimated to be about 10 exp 8/cu cm at the time of s-processing.
