The solar value of (R-I)C is found to be 0.337 +/- 0.0024 mag based on FGK-star data. The equivalent value of (R-I)J is 0.343 +/- 0.0033 mag. The database which yields these values encompasses integrated H alpha and H beta measurements and temperatures derived from Balmer-line wings. It is found that for F III-V, G IV-V, and K V stars with (R-I)C l greater than or equal to 0.06 but less than or equal to 0.50 mag theta equals 1.075(R-I)C + 0.510.
