The properties of the hot gas in a cosmological N-body simulation are examined. The cooling algorithm for the gas provides a quick and effective way of identifying the masses and positions of galaxies. Two large clusters are visible at the final stage of the simulations. One of these is smooth and centrally condensed, reminiscent of nearby cooling flow clusters. The other is dynamically young, with an extended low-density core. Suniaev-Zel'dovich fluctuations of microwave background photons in their passage through the hot gas are discussed. It is concluded that the effect is small, less than 0.00001, unless a cluster of galaxies is visible along the line-of-sight.
