A short biography of the mechanic, professor and chair of the Department of mechanics at the University in Kiev Ivan Ivanovich Rakhmaninov(Rachmaninov) (1826-1897)is given. He was a descendent of the Moldavian prince Stephen the Great (1457-1504), a graduated from the Moscow University (a disciple of professor N.D. Brashman). A list of available publications is included. Details concerning his origin and closure to composer Serge Rakhmaninov (Rachmaninov) and translator Ivan Fedorovich Rakhmaninov(Rachmaninov) are given.
