Consideration is given to the possibility that the moon was formed by the collision of the partially formed protoearth with a body about the size of Mars. It is suggested that the collision could have knocked the earth into its 23-degree tilt. Two models of the collision and the impact of such a collision on the geochemistry and temperature of the early earth are examined.
