An improved analytical approximation for the dispersion of impact
velocities is constructed, leading to modifications in the theory of
collision systems proposed by Hameen-Anttila (1988). The results of the
calculations are compared with computer simulations, showing that the
new formulations improve the accuracy of the theory.
