The principal features of the JNLT as an infrared telescope are presented along with its ultimate performance of detectivity in typical methods of imagery and spectroscopy. Some infrared instruments: infrared camera, grating spectrometer, and Fabry-Perot-based imager, currently proposed as the first generation instruments are also discussed in relation to the scientific objectives of the JNLT.
