Magnetic and dynamical properties of molecular cloud edges are computed in the framework of a model, using existing observations of several C II layers and S II layers near H II regions. Results obtained by comparing the observed carbon recombination lines in cloud edges with carbon monoxide lines in cloud envelopes indicate a typical penetration speed of 0.8 km/s, sound speed of 0.6 km/s in C II layers (0.2 km/s elsewhere), Alfven speed of 0.8 km/s, and ambipolar diffusion speed of 2 mm/s. The typical magnetic field intensity derived is 90 microgauss, for a compression factor between 2 and 10 and a layer density of 60,000/cu cm. Similar results are obtained from the observed sulfur recombination line-emitting layers inside molecular cloud edges.
