Near-infrared images of the regions around SVS 4 and FIRS 1 of the Serpens cloud are presented. Eleven stellar objects surrounded by a faint nebulosity of approximately 50 arcsec in size are found in the SVS 4 2.2-micron image. The stars show a moderate infrared excess in the (J-H,H-K) color diagram. Relying on these evidences, the objects are suggested to be embedded PMS Serpens stars. The SVS 4 stellar group constitutes one of the densest clustering of PMS stars known. An extended jetlike nebulosity with a pointlike continuum source at its apex is located near FIRS 1. This is the first detection of an object at this position of the cloud at wavelengths shorter than the far-infrared range. The object is only detected in the 2-micron window, and the nebulosity probably is shock-excited H2 emission, the illuminating star being the continuum source at the apex.
