The instability of a stratified atmosphere with a horizontal magnetic field is considered within the framework of anisotropic MHD. The stability boundaries and increments for various types of perturbations are defined for the case of an exponential atmosphere with a spatially homogeneous anisotropic temperature. The results can be applied to the solar atmosphere, space plasma, and interstellar medium.
