We present archival Chandra data of the Supernova Remnant (SNR) 3C 397. The most striking feature in the image is a hard, point source just outside the southeastern shell (J2000 19 07 41.308, +07 06 50.68), and we find no evidence for a pulsar wind nebula inside the SNR proper. The spectrum of the hard source is well-fit with a black body continuum (kT = 3 keV) and an iron K line (equivalent width = 0.5 keV), which is absorbed by a similar column density as the SNR (NH = 4 x 1022 cm-2). This spectrum suggests that the compact object may contain an accretion disk. In addition to the compact object, the SNR morphology contains interesting structures which may suggest a bipolar expolosion.
