The present review presents stellar flares in classical flare stars as well as in the RS CVn binary stars. Based on their statistical properties, various physical models of flares are analysed in comparison with observations including recent multi-wavelength monitoring. It is argued by many researchers that the stellar flare is something similar to the solar white light flare and its optical radiation is of quasi-black-body and from a deep chromosphere with a limited emission area. The questions about how to understand the energy release processes and the heating mechanism are discussed in the view of solar-stellar connection.
