Fluctuations in earth polar motions were studied by comparing theoretical and observed bandwidths for the different fluctuation periods. These periods, moreover, were correlated with the typical period of some natural phenomena. Analysis of the homogeneous series of coordinates Xi and Yi of the earth's rotational axis highlights the existence of periodic fluctuations in polar motion which could be associated with: complex nutation phenomena in the inner core of the earth (28 year period) or, in a mantle core coupling, possible disturbances of a gravitational nature bound to lunar precession (17.5 year period), or phenomena of a geophysical nature which might in some way determine a variation in the earth's product of inertia, with consequent variations in the position of the inertia pole (8.5 and 5.5 year periods).
