Historical remarks on Wolf and Rayet, the Wolf-Rayet spectrum and its classification, the degree of correlation between Wolf-Rayet stars and double stars, variables of state for Wolf-Rayet stars, and the elemental composition of Wolf-Rayet stellar atmospheres are considered. The spectra of a carbon series star and a nitrogen series star are presented as examples of Wolf-Rayet spectra. Radial velocity curves of typical spectra lines for the first of these stars are given. The dependence of the flux density of He II lines on the principal quantum number nHe for the second of these stars and for one other nitrogen star is diagrammed.
