An analysis is made of the redshift dependence of the rotation measures
(RM) and of the intrinsic position angles of the polarized radiation of
radio galaxies and QSOs. The results place an upper limit of 10 rad per
sq m on the observed RM, coming from the contribution of the magnetic
field in the intergalactic region.
