Cross sections are reported for Na21 production induced by 10, 12, 14, and 16 MeV protons on natural Mg targets. The targets, irradiation procedure, and measurements of flux and isotope activity are described, and the cross sections for Na21 production are compared with cross sections for the production of Na22 from Mg and Zn65 from Cu65. The values of the Na21 cross sections are correlated with those for the production of Ne21 and Ne22 by low-energy protons in meteorites. It is concluded from these values that the Ne22/Ne21 ratios found just below the surfaces of extraterrestial samples would be lowered by an excess of low-energy protons, although other effects would mask the lowering in most cases.
