Limb darkening observations are reanalyzed allowing for departures from local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE). Comparisons of resulting 'observed' absorption coefficients with theoretical absorption cross-sections indicate that departures, larger than 2 percent in the NLTE parameter b from unity, are unlikely. Direct computations based on radiative equilibrium considerations support larger departures.
