Methods of searching for young galaxies in the optical and radio range are discussed, emphasizing the identification of faint radio sources with low-intensity fluxes, moderately compact radio dimensions, and steep spectra. The properties of the radio source 4C 40.36, which is identified with a faint, very distant galaxy, are analyzed. It is concluded that 4C 40.36 is a radio-quiet quasar that evolved more than 10 to the 8th yr ago and whose nucleus is no longer supplying relativistic particles to the components stuck in the gas of the young galaxy.
