NGC 2440 is a planetary nebula harboring one of the hottest stars known. IUE spectra and narrow-band CCD imagery at Kitt Peak suggest a stellar temperature, Teff ~ 200,000 K (Heap and Hintzen 1990). Because of seeing problems, however, it is very difficult to detect the central star against the bright nebular background. This problem is virtually eliminated by the high angular resolution of the Hubble Space Telescope. Not only is the star visible on narrow-band continuum (F517N) images taken by the Planetary Camera, it is even visible on Hβ (F487M) images. We deconvolved the PC images using three different restoration algorithms: Lucy-Richardson, Maximum Entropy Method, and the Block-Iterative Method. We measured the brightness of the central star on these restored images and on the PODPS-reduced image and then applied the appropriate aperture corrections and absolute calibrations as given in the WFPC Science Verification Report (Faber and Westphal 1992). The resulting stellar magnitude confirms earlier findings of a HI Zanstra temperature, Tz(HI) ~ 200,000 K. At the meeting, we will compare the results of the various methods of image restoration and stellar photometry as well as the nebular structure.
