Theoretical emission-line profiles are presented for the narrow emission-line region of active galactic nuclei, for lines in a broad wavelength range (1000-10000 A). It is assumed that the clouds are moving radially from the galactic center, photoionization and shock effects are taken into account, coupled in a self-consistent way, and the velocity distribution of the emitting clouds is an exponential or a power-law function. Several models are considered, depending on the intensity of the ionizing radiation in the velocity field. The results show that the theoretical calculations, based on composite models, can explain many observed features, in particular, line widths and line asymmetries, with simple physical assumptions.
