The orbital parameters of binary pulsars with unknown companions can be used to derive the distribution of their mass ratios, mu = m2/m1, assuming random inclinations and a given primary mass. For a group of such objects with nearly circular orbits, the mean and standard deviation of mu and the probable range of secondary masses are derived here. Companion masses are about 0.25 solar masses on the mean, but their probable range includes objects below the theoretical limit of hydrogen-burning stars.
