Published UV, H-alpha and H I fluxes are used to study the current star formation through the disk of Messier 81 (M81). The resolution of the study is 2.5 x 2.5 arcmin. The UV and H-alpha fluxes have been corrected for dust extinction using the H I content and compared to model predictions in order to set constraints on the initial mass function for massive stars and to estimate the star formation rates (SFR) in several areas over the disk. A dispersed correlation is found between the SFR as obtained from UV fluxes and the H I gas content per unit area while no correlation is found when the SFR are deduced from the H-alpha fluxes. The gas depletion time scales are estimated to be of the order of several Gyr and are found to increase towards the edge of the disk. This variation may be tentatively explained by an influence of the galactic rotation on the SFR.
