The volume collects the proceedings of a national workshop that took place in Perugia, Italy, on May 21st, 2003, and of a meeting on the analysis of data from astrophysics experiments (GLAST in particular) held the day after the astrophysics workshop. The exciting expectations from the next generation of ground-based and space-borne high energy gamma-ray projects, and the rapidly growing scientific community interested in gamma-ray astrophysics and astroparticle physics, have made useful workshops like this, to exchange ideas, results, to periodically set updates, and to prepare to analyze data. In this spirit, despite of possible inhomogeneities in the text, it was our choice to publish quickly these proceedings.
