Recent advances in astrophysical opacity calculations are discussed. A
description and comparison of results from two new independent efforts
is given. The large increases in the calculated opacity in the few
hundred-thousand degree range have led to improved agreement with a wide
range of observations. Some directions for future work are suggested.
