Sky Surveys: Extreme Uv

Scientific paper

This paper discusses the first ever survey of cosmic extreme ultra-violet sources discovered by ROSAT. The rationale of such a survey is discussed and comparisons to similar surveys are made. Procedures and results of the optical identification programme are presented, with particular reference to the southern sources identified at SAAO. The nature of the source population, with particular reference to the first ROSAT catalogue of EUV-bright sources, is discussed.
