An important link between two similar types of disturbance on Jupiter was noticed in 1975-76, when a 'South Temperate Belt Fade' induced a 'dislocation' resembling the historical South Tropical Disturbances. Subsequently the link has been substantiated, as in 1978-79 the South Temperate Belt Fade induced another such dislocation which became a genuine South Tropical Disturbance. In 1982, a third such event appears to have begun. It should be carefully observed.
