A comparative examination from the practical point of view is made of the methods of simultaneous elimination of fast and slow variables, accelerated elimination, and the non-canonical Lie transformation, that have been proposed in the literature. A non-canonical transformation defined by implicit functions is given and shown to be simpler than the Lie transformation.
