The post-core-collapse evolutin of a 25 solar mass star endowed with a specific angular momentum comparable to that inferred for a main sequence O star is considered. The numerical calculation uses an explicitly differenced, two-dimensional hydrodynamics code with a simple analytic representation for the energy generation from nuclear burning and equation of state tables generated by the KEPLER stellar evolution code. Results dramatically different from those of Woosley and Weaver (1982) are obtained for a particular choice of angular momentum distribution and core history. An explosion is produced where none existed before. The sensitivity of the results to the assumed parameterization is studied with the conclusion that this explosion is a credible result for a fairly broad range of parameters. Nucleosynthesis and the expected optical display are discussed, as are the uncertainties in the model, its favorable prospects for gravitational radiation, and its relevance to recent observations of young supernova remnants displaying toroidal symmetry.
