A survey of NGC 6822 and other nearby galaxies employing the triplet camera of the ESO 3.6 m telescope in combination with GRISMS and various filter + plate combinations has resulted in the detection of a number of possible Wolf-Rayet stars. One of the W-R star candidates in NGC 6822 has yielded an IDS spectrum showing the characteristics of a WN 3 star, with a visual magnitude of -4.6, and membership in a stellar association, where it is embedded in a weak H II region.
