The World Day campaign in January 2010 has provided a wealth of both ground- and space-based observations of the lower thermosphere and ionosphere. This makes this period of particular interest for studying the dynamics and coupling between these two regions. During this month a strong quasi-three day wave is observed in the equatorial thermosphere and a corresponding temporal signature is seen in the ionosphere at these latitudes, elucidating the electrodynamic coupling between these two regions. Here we will present observations that reveal the properties of this wave in the lower thermosphere using both ground- and space-based instruments. By comparison of this time period to both earlier in this season and to the same season in other years, we will assess how common / unique this time interval is for studying the dynamical and electrodynamical effects of this wave.
