The 28-A-dispersion spectrograms of the variable supergiant FG Sge reported by Kipper (1981) are reexamined, and the 4498-4522-A and 4694-4718-A portions are compared with synthetic spectra generated using a plane-parallel LTE model atmosphere with effective temperature 4800 K and log g = 0.0. It is found that the intensity peaks suspected of being emission lines are merely gaps in a pure absorption spectrum. The only bright lines seen in FG Sge are thus the red forbidden lines of N II from the surrounding planetary nebula.
