Solar radiation is one of key factors in most climate processes. In this paper, the change of solar radiation in Lhasa City has been analyzed based on the meteorological data obtained from Chinese Meteorological Administration during 1961-2005. The temporal evolution of the mean annual solar radiation series shows a significant decrease from 1961 to 2005 at a rate of 7.63 W/m2 10a. Moreover, the winter, spring, summer and autumn solar radiation series also show decrease trends with values of 6.20, 6.58, 8.62 and 7.12 W/m2 10a, respectively. The sunshine duration series has a same trend with solar radiation, and climatic variables such as the low cloud amount, total cloud amount and relative humidity have significant correlations with solar radiation. The aerosol index data around Lhasa city from TOMS is also analyzed. The result shows that the increase of aerosol index is consistent with the decrease of solar radiation. The increase in aerosol resulting from human activities is a important reason for the decrease in solar radiation.
