HD 224118, first suggested to be a binary on the basis of a lunar-occultation observation, is shown to be a spectroscopic binary with a period of about 1200 days and the unusually high eccentricity of 0.71. It seems unlikely that the secondary in the spectroscopic system (or any other secondary) is bright enough to have been detected by the occultation method, so it is probably fortuitous that HD 224118 has proved to be double.
