The authors present new CCD spectrophotometry of NGC 3783 covering the region 6000 Å to 1 μm at medium resolution. These data are combined with previously obtained optical and IUE spectra to estimate the reddenings appropriate to the broad and narrow line emitting regions. Line profile analysis of the [Fe VII] and [Fe XI] species show the recent development of a strong blue wing. The authors conclude that both these species are photoionized.
